Kumasi Hosts Pure Comedy

COMEDY in the Ashanti Region would be given a much-needed boost when the maiden edition of Pure Comedy, scheduled for the Golden Bean Hotel on Friday, September 25, comes off.

The event which is powered by Switchline Entertainment, would feature a host of some of the most celebrated comedians in Ghana currently-DKB, Foster Romanus, David Aglah and Khemikal.

In an interview with the Daily Graphic, David Aglah, CEO of Switchline Entertainment and one of the comedians expected to perform at the event, said the decision to establish a comedy-club in Kumasi was borne out of the need to improve the fledging comedy scene in the Ashanti Region.

He added that Pure Comedy would also bring together major players in corporate institutions within the Ashanti Region to network and unwind after a hard day’s work. “Unlike Accra, there are not many places where comedy lovers can go and enjoy good comedy in a relaxing environment,” he said.

He told Daily Graphic that after the launch of Pure Comedy in the Ashanti Region, his team would replicate the project in the other regions of the country.

“We would definitely be opening similar clubs across the country but for the moment, the concentration is on the Ashanti Region.

We want to see how it takes root in Kumasi before we shift our focus to other parts of the country.

He praised the growth of comedy within the country adding that events such as the Pure Comedy had the potential to cultivate the interest in a lot more people.

“Ghanaian comedy is currently making waves and one of the ways to improve the industry even further is to stage events of this kind across the country,” he said.
