Partially Blind Demonstrator Slams Omane Boamah (VIDEO)

Justice Adzakumah, the 36 year old whose eye was damaged by the police after he joined demonstrators calling for a new voters register has taken a swipe at Communication Minister, Edward Omane Boamah for claiming he is faking sickness to attract public sympathy. The 36-year footwear seller at Nkrumah Circle in Accra told Adomonline.com in an interview in his Accra Newtown home that he was very displeased by the comments from the Minister as he could not have engaged in such an act just for public sympathy.

“I am very disappointed in him, he should come here and see the injury to my eye himself…how could he have said I have applied tinned tomatoes to my eye…for what…he should come, I would gladly present myself to him for him to examine me himself…,” he said.

The father of two was permanently damaged in the left eye after he was hit by a rubber bullet fired by the police during the recently organized demonstration by the Let My Vote Count Alliance (LMCA) to call for a new voters register.

The Minister is said to have claimed that Justice Adzakumah and the organizers of the demonstration deliberately applied tomato paste to his left eye.

The aim of this, he said, was for the organizers to attract public sympathy and also incite the public against the police service for the high handedness with which they dealt with the demonstrators.

This comment, Justice said, should not have come from a public official like Omane Boamah, adding that he feels insulted by the comment.

“Where did I go to apply the tinned tomatoes, do I look like a small boy to engage in such childish games…he (Omane Boamah) has children, I don’t think he would be pleased if someone says so about his children when they fall into such a situation…,” he said

He further called on the minister to walk to his New Town home and confirm the truth himself.

His sentiments were shared by his niece, Sandra Afedzi who expressed shock at the comments of the minister claiming she couldn’t believe the medical doctor could have made such unsubstantiated claims.

“He should come here and see it for himself too...when I saw him (Uncle) at the hospital, I couldn’t even eat as a result of that…so why would he say that…?”
