Anas Deserves No Immunity...He Lured The Judges

A private legal practitioner, Bright Akwetey says ace journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas deserves no immunity after luring judges into taking bribes.

“…he is not entitled to any immunity….both the giver and the receiver are all guilty” he said.

The Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Mrs Marietta Brew Appiah-Oppong, gave Anas immunity from prosecution and any civil action after he uncovered massive corruption among judges and other judicial service workers.

The grant of immunity to Anas is per Section 19 of the Whistle-blowers’ Act (Act 720).

But speaking in an interview on Citi Eye witness news, Wednesday, Bright Akwetey said Anas should not have been given immunity because during the investigation, “…you (Anas) didn’t go to hide somewhere to look at or to screen a scene when a judge is seen taking money from somebody but you (Anas) instigated the thing yourself”.

Mr Akwetey also added that since Anas lured the judges into collecting bribes, he should not have gone ahead to show the video.

Anas on Tuesday premiered the investigative piece at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC) even though the Centre had an injunction not to show the video.

“If you have gone to lure the judge into taking money, you don’t go and show to the general public especially when you have been served with a process to stop you from screening it…now that you went ahead to show the video, who is going to have confidence in the system again” Bright Akwetey added.
