Customs Destroys Seized Goods

With three months to the end of the year, the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has intensified its efforts to monitor the movement of goods at the country’s entry points to prevent the importation of illegal and unwholesome goods.

As part of the strategies, the Customs Division has engaged agents to track and arrest smugglers at the country’s entry points.

The Ashanti Regional Commander of the Customs Division, Assistant Commissioner Mr. Kofi Toffah, made this known to the Daily Graphic in Kumasi after he had led a team of Custom officials to destroy some seized goods at Kaase, in Kumasi.

The goods were seized from 15 traders and one unknown person between December, 2014 and May, 2015.

The items included PKTS biscuits, PKTS chocolate, body magic dietary supplements, PKTS noodles for soup, PKTS cream crackers and fruit drinks.

Mr. Toffah expressed the commitment of the Customs Division of GRA to check the importation of unwholesome goods to sanitize the system, promote good health and enhance the economy.
