Leaders of pressure group, Let My Vote Count Alliance (LMVCA) are in court to challenge an injunction filed by the Police to restrain them from embarking on a second demonstration – aimed to a new voters register.
The police is in court seeking another injunction to restrain the group from picketing at the premises of the Electoral Commission (EC); a facility the police say is a security zone.
Speaking on Neat FM’s Ghana Montie morning show, President of the group, David Asante expressed outraged over the police’s consistent attempts to stop the group from having access to the EC premises.
“We all were witnesses to the incident where supporters and some national executives of the now ruling NDC party, while in opposition in 2008 marched in broad day light with all sorts of weapons to the EC premises in the heat of the elections, but the police never took any action to repel or arrest them,” he said.
Just last week, what was meant to be a peaceful demonstration ended up in violence when the police clashed with unarmed demonstrators demanding a new voters register.
David however told host Kwasi Aboagye that Tuesday September 29” demonstration will come off as schedule – “we will meet them in court but surely the demo will come on.”
