Afenyo Markins Secret Tape: NPP Should Distance Itself; Suspend Members Kwesi Pratt

Managing Editor of the Insight newspaper, Kwesi Pratt has asked the opposition New Patriotic Party to distance itself from a leaked tape implicating Member of Parliament for Effutu Alexander Afenyo Markin and other members of the NPP.

“…the party should take steps immediately to distance itself from this cascading scandal. Every member associated with this scandal, ought to be suspended otherwise, the ripples will touch the NPP” he admonished.

In the voice recording, two people, one thought to be Afenyo Markins, was heard planning to present a weak case against the ADB IPO before the Supreme Court so the court could easily quash it to enable him and an unnamed number of MPs benefit financially.

The Lawyer was allegedly heard negotiating with top bank officials, for funds to be paid into his bank account in New York or that of his sister’s.

The damning audio also reveals that the decision to withdraw an initial suit against the IPO was deliberately done to enable the bank to go to the market with the sale of share.

Contributing to a panel discussion on Radio Gold’s Alhaji and Alhaji, Kwesi Pratt said after he listened to “some of the tape recordings” he was “so so shocked by what I was hearing. This tape recording is far more shocking than any Anas tape; because all the ingredients on Anas tape are also present on this tape and even more… that is my worry. This tape is a mind blower…these tapes and its dimensions are horrifying”

According to him, “it may not be Afenyo Markins…but it doesn’t mean that the tape should be abandoned. We need to carry out investigations to establish who were on the tape. The police has the mechanism to ensure; verify and determine who and who is on the tape..The language on the tape is very interesting….but strangely for more than one week, this tape has been neglected; nobody wants to play the tape”
