Three parliamentary aspirants in the Western Region who were vetted by the Vetting Committee of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have been disqualified from contesting in the party�s primaries slated for November 1.
They are Mr. Emmanuel Owusu Ansah, Sefwi-Bodi constituency, Mr. Bismark Gyenim, Bibiani/Anhwiaso/Bekwai constituency and Mr. Issah Mumuni, Sefwi-Ankontombra constituency.
They were disqualified for various reasons including alleged involvement in fraud, forgery and failure to appear before the Vetting Committee.
Mr. Joseph Nelson, Regional Secretary of the party, told the Ghana News Agency, over the weekend, in Takoradi that, the Vetting Committee led by Mr. Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, National Organiser conducted vigorous assessments of the aspirants.
He said those, who had been cleared to contest were credible and could carry the party to victory when they emerge victorious in the primaries.
Meanwhile, the Committee agreed to defer the vetting of three parliamentary aspirants, who petitioned it because they were on national assignments outside the country.
They are Mr. Sampson Ahi, Member of Parliament (MP) for Sefwi-Bodi and Deputy Minister of Water Resources Works and Housing, Mr. Isaac Adjei-Mensah, MP for Wassa East and Deputy Minister for Transport and Mr. Sam Pee Yalley, Ghana�s Ambassador to India.
Mr. Nelson indicated that the caliber of persons, who filed their nominations to contest in the party�s primaries, is very high, in terms of academic qualification, social stature and personality.
He urged them to campaign on issues, devoid of insults and rancor and entreated the aspirants to exercise circumspection with their utterances in their campaign in order not to bring the image and reputation of the party into disrepute.
�In seeking the support of the delegates you should be mindful of the image of the party and do things that will always protect the image of the party �he stressed.
He called for peace and unity at the various constituencies to enable the party to emerge victorious in next year�s parliamentary and presidential elections
The Regional Secretary expressed optimism that the party was on course to win not less than 20 out of the 26 constituencies in the region.
