Supporters of some failed NDC parliamentary aspirants in the Northern region are currently picketing the party regional headquarters over the disqualification of their candidates by the party's General secretary, Mr. Johnson Aseidu Nketiah and his panel of vetting committee.

Their actions, according to them, were sparked by a Facebook post by some regional executives and pronouncement by the regional director of elections, Rashid Computer on a local radio station. The supporters from two constituencies ; The Yabaga Kuboro and Chereponi constituencies are demanding varied explanations from the regional executives why their candidates were not approved by the committee and subsequent reinstall these candidates.

At the Tamale Sports stadium on Monday, after the party ended the vetting process, its General secretary announced that seven(7) aspirants had taken a reversed decision by stepping down from the contest. The aspirants; Alfred Donkor of Kpandai constituency, Bernard Jagri Bagyepu and Mohammed Ali of Bimbila, Sulemana Isifu and Hajia Mary Nakobu of Chereponi and Mumuni Abdul Mohammed of Salaga North constituency.

However, in a sharp contrast of incidents, supporters of Hajia Mary Nakobu and Mohammed Ali respectively have denied that their candidates willfully stepped down against Mr. Nketiah announcement at the vetting ground.

Alhassan Aliwu Badaa, spokesperson for the aggrieved youth of Chereponi said Hajia Mary, the District chief executive never told the vetting committee she was stepping down from the contest but it was the committee which accused the DCE of "bringing" the embattled NDP to the constituency.

"Hajia never brought NDP to Chereponi for that matter the youth are not happy and we want to see justice because we know Hajia is the only person who can champion the cause of our people in the constituency so we want them to rethink and bring her back to the scene."

However, the concerned youth of Yabaga/Kuboro in a related development, are threatening court injunction if the party leadership fails to act on this matter by approving Mohammed Ali for the contest.

Issahaku K. Tintiataba said "All we want is fair play, a party that is peaceful must not have a vandalized youth. So we are trying to prevent distraction in the party in the constituency level, if we keep quiet, the youth in the constituency would never understand it because Mohammed Ali has not made any formal statement that he has stepped down. We will therefore go to court to place an injunction on this particular constituency issue and seek legal advice from the appropriate quarters, All we know is that Mohammad has not stepped down," He declared.

Meanwhile, it is unclear whether these two aspirants supported the actions by the youth groups as all attempts to get them has been unsuccessful. No official was there to attend to these disgruntled supporters.
