Black Queens Bonus: Sack Sports Minister- Otiko Djaba

The National Women’s Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Otiko Afisa Djaba wants the Minister for Sports, Alhaji Mustapha Ahmed sacked if bonuses owed the Black Queens are not paid.

The senior female national football team members are still lodging in their hotel at M Plaza after returning from the All Africa Games in Congo, following the inability of the Sports Ministry to pay them their winning bonuses.

The GFA on Monday met with the ladies and assured them of working to ensure that the players are paid.

Speaking to Citi News, Otiko Afisa Djaba emphasized the need for an apology to be rendered to the footballers and their officials over the non payment of their bonuses.

“They could have refused to play for failing to pay their bonuses but they played and won gold only to come home to be insulted and abused, that is unforgivable… the Minister should be sacked if they don’t pay them these monies, what is good for the men is also good for the women,” Madam Afisa Djaba said.

Meanwhile the Communications and Advocacy Manager of Women’s Right Organization, WiLDAF-Ghana, Patricia Isabella Essel has described the unpaid bonus impasse as unfair.

“It is simply not fair to say that what is their due is not being given to them, they should ensure that their entitlement is given to them…it’s long overdue,” she said.
