Leaders of the Let My Vote Count Alliance (LMVCA) would have saved themselves the needless brutalities they invited upon themselves if they had abandoned the amusement park approach and entered the premise of the EC in peace, Madam Charlotte Osei has observed.

The chairperson for the Electoral Commission concedes they already have a petition from the LMVCA capturing their position on the debate for a new voters’ register.

However she explains the commission is yet to receive an updated petition the group.

This she claims could be as a result of the scuffle that ensued between LMVCA demonstrators and police on 16th September, 2015.

The bloody turnout made it impossible for the leaders of the group to picket at the EC but Madam Charlotte Osei believes “there are so many ways of sending a petition, so let’s see how it turns out.”

She maintains her commission has never been against the petition LMVCA intends to present to them and feels sorry things didn’t go as planned despite a prior agreement between all the parties involved.

The police according to her had only briefed the commission that to safeguard and protect human lives, they would not allow the picketing to happen on the EC’s premise.

An agreed venue came up and all parties according to the EC boss, settled on that. For a yet to be known reason, the venue was not used and the petition couldn’t reach the commission as planned, she added.
