The five member committee investigating bribery allegations leveled against some 22 magistrates have adjourned their sittings for a month.

The committee was scheduled to continue cross-examining undercover journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas today [Thursday] after it resumed sitting on Wednesday.

The sitting was adjourned because “Anas has written to the committee that he will be out of jurisdiction.”

The committee resumed sitting after a High Court struck out a case brought before it by some 14 implicated judges who were seeking to stop the committee’s work.

The 14 were praying the court to declare as illegal, the composition of the committee but their case was dismissed by Justice Gertrude Torkonoo.

In her ruling Justice Torkonoo said the Judicial Council was only performing its administrative role by appointing the committee to look into the matter, an action she says “cannot be illegal.”
