Betty Mould-Iddrisu Must Apologize To The Ashanti Kingdom Or Else,.... Chairman Wontumi

Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, has expressed displeasure over remarks by former Attorney General and Vice Chairperson of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Betty Mould- Iddrisu that she “regrets being an Ashanti”.

Betty Mould, addressing party supporters in the Ashanti region a couple of days back, lamented what she describes as the biases of the media in the Ashanti region when it comes to reporting achievements of the performance of the Mills and Mahama administrations.

Sometimes when I listen to the radio and I hear the things that are said on the radio, I feel pained, I feel pained that I am an Ashanti. I wonder why we can’t value what we have. I wonder why we can’t acknowledge that in Africa, Ghana is number one and among the top five countries,” she said.

According to her, the country the last seven years under the NDC, has witnessed unprecedented achievements in education and educational infrastructure and thus finds it hard to come to terms with why the press in the region is not "objective" in their reportage.

But to Chairman Wontumi, as the NPP Ashanti Regional is affectionately called, the former minister has besmeared the good image of the Ashanti Kingdom and must therefore render an unqualified apology to the ruler of the Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and all indigenes.

Speaking on NEAT FM’s morning show Ghana Montie the NPP chairman described Betty Mould- Iddrisu’s comment as “unfortunate” and sardonically said “sorry” on her behalf but insisted that “She should personally apologize to the Ashanti Kingdom for that gaffe.

He argued that - “The Asante kingdom is greater and bigger than her [Betty Mould] and her political party [NDC]
