Strikes Shouldn't Happen Again...Gov't Should Pay Junior Nurses - Kwesi Pratt

Kwesi Pratt has condemned government's failure to remit arrears to striking nurses in the country.

Speaking on 'Kokrokoo' on Peace FM, the Editor-in-Chief of the Insight newspaper expressed disgust at the conduct of government officials towards public sector workers.

According to him, public sector workers have continually received unfair treatments from government with regard to the payment of their allowances and salaries.

This therefore, to him, has become worrying because employers cannot employ the services of people without paying their due.

Commenting on the junior nurses' issue where they have not been paid their salaries, Mr. Pratt believed in the services of the nurses and commended them for rendering the services to Ghanaians despite not being paid.

Over 7000 nurses have embarked on an indefinite strike. They laid down their tools over unpaid salaries by their employer.

They are demanding payment of their salary arrears.

Addressing the issue on Peace FM, Mr. Pratt called on the Mahama government and any other successive government to nip the situation in the bud and ensure that workers do not use strikes as their last resort before they are paid.

“Any sitting government has the responsibility to correct what happened in the past which is not correct…Strikes can be legal. Strikes are part of the weapons that workers use to make demands legally and I don’t think this country should allow this to happen again. It shouldn’t happen again. If we come back to this studio six months later, 2 years later or 4 years later to address this same issue, then there’s something fundamentally wrong with our society.”
