Be Pragmatic In Your Line Of Work As Assembly Members

Alhaji Essa Antiaye Tetteh, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Kpone-Katamanso District, on Tuesday charged the newly inaugurated Assembly and Unit Committee Members to be pragmatic and proactive in their dealings with the people.

He said it behooved them to work assiduously to push for the needed development in their respective electoral areas and to make the people active participants in decision- making process and governance.

The DCE, who was addressing an assemblage at the inauguration of the second Kpone-Katamanso Assembly in Kpone, appealed to the elected and appointed members of the assembly to work for the interest of the people they represented.

The Kpone-Katamanso District Assembly (KKDA) was carved from the Tema Metropolitan Assembly in 2012 with the promulgation of the Legislative Instrument (LI) 2031.

According to the DCE, a united front through hard work devoid of partisanship, narrow mindedness, and egoism, would ensure an improved assembly and expand the decentralisation process.

“Let’s exhibit common identity, objectivity, fairness and above all, equity and equality in the discharge of our duties, through pragmatism and hard work” he said.

Alhaji Tetteh reiterated the government’s commitment to the release of statutory funds to meet budgetary provisions and said there was need to mobilize supplementary funds at the local level to meet the increasing demands of the people.

“Resources are scarce but the needs and aspirations of the district are limitless, which require the ingenuity of transformational duty bearers to make ends meet through the packaging of tailor-made training programmes to sharpen the skills of members of the assembly,” he explained.

Mrs Sedina Tamakloe Attionu, the Chief Executive Officer of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), who read the inaugural address, on behalf of President Mahama, urged the assembly to generate more revenue through property rate collection, to fund development projects and stop the over-reliance on the District Assembly Common Fund and other government releases.

Mr Ibrahim Mumuni Adams, a government appointee from the Akansa Electoral Area, in an interview with the GNA, expressed appreciation to the government for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to work actively with other elected members to improve the general living conditions of the people.

In all, 18 elected members and seven government appointees swore the oath of allegiance and secrecy as Members of the Assembly.
