Thieveries at Korle-Bu: Donors Unhappy

Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital is becoming notorious these days for rampant thieveries, whiles authorities look on unconcerned as no attempt is made to apprehend culprits who have turned the hospital into a gold mine. This lackadaisical attitude on the part of authorities at Korle-Bu has attracted a lot of bashing from some Ghanaians and other corporate bodies. They are not happy with the development and have advised authorities in charge of Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital to investigate allegations to retrieve stolen items, if not, they are not going to waste their resources for others to enrich themselves at the expense of the sick people. To them, the happenings are beginning to dampen their spirit and believe it is also a worry to the government because private support is crucial. Information reaching newsmen has it that, a green 80 KVA (Kilo Volt Amperes) diesel engine generator set has also been reported missing from the hospital.According to a source, the generator was donated to Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital by a sympathetic private organisation sometime in 2002, following a call made by the hospital for public support to reverse the unwarranted deaths resulting from the perennial power outages that impede serious emergency operations at the hospital. With this appeal, newsmen got to know that two of such diesel engine generators sets were donated to the hospital, one which was sent to the Cardiothoracic Centre to boost up and cushion operations there. But surprisingly, two years after the generator sets were brought in, the one installed at the Cardiothoracic Centre has vanished. The question many Ghanaians are now asking is, how can a big generator vanish without anybodys knowledge. Concerned Ghanaians have therefore asked Professor Nartey to investigate and retrieve especially the stolen generator from its new owner.
