Implicated Judges Case Is In 3 Folds - Prof Ocquaye

The focus of the implicated judges in the Anas exposé which seven (7) out of the 12 High Court Judges have been suspended has always been on the Judicial Council trial and criminal charge but the law professor Mike Ocquaye says the case is in three folds.

According to the former deputy Speaker of Parliament, the judges must also be taken to the General Legal Council to have their names cancelled from the roll of lawyers for going contrary to the principles.

Speaking on Okay FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia' Morning Show, Professor Mike Ocquaye said it is too early to conclude the suspended judges are guilty of corruption unless they are tried and proven guilty in a competent court of jurisdiction.

But the former Energy minister added the evidence from Anas video is enough to convict the suspended judges for taking bribe to pervert justice; stressing that when they are punished for the misconduct by the judicial council, they should face trial in court for corruption which is a crime.

“…the judges’ cases are in three folds; the first one is that the judicial can sack them and they can be taken to court for trial and the third is that they will be taken to General Legal Council to cancel their names from the roll of lawyers. They will no longer be lawyers,” he stated.

“Corruption is a criminal offense; any public officers who will take bribe in their line of duties commit criminal offense. If they are tried and convicted, there is prison punishment for them,” he added.
