Anas Expos: Implicated Retired Judges Have To Face Court Trial Immediately - Prof. Ocquaye

Law professor, Mike Ocquaye has added his voice to calls for the arrest and prosecution of the two retired judges who were allegedly caught on camera receiving bribes to tilt the scale of justice.

According to the former Ghana’s Ambassador to India, the law covering crime has no expiring date and age and so the judges who were caught by the ace investigative journalist’s camera cannot escape arrest and possible jail sentence because they are on retirement.

Ace investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas, turned the heat on two retired justices of the High Court by writing to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to arrest them.

Justices Yaw Ansu Gyeabuor (retd) and Justice F.K. Opoku (retd), were among 12 High Court judges caught on camera allegedly receiving bribes to tilt the scale of justice but they are currently on retirement.

The fact that they are on retirement means that impeachment proceedings cannot be instituted against them, but Anas has petitioned the IGP to cause the arrest of the two retired justices.

Speaking on Okay Fm’s Ade Akye Abia Morning Show in endorsement of Anas position, Professor Mike Ocquaye said the retired judges are not under the judicial council anymore to go through the impeachment process but if there is evidence that they took bribe while in active service, it doesn’t matter they are on retirement.

“They must be charged with criminal offense and it is lawful; criminal cases don’t elapse no matter the years they take. We must set examples and so whether they are on pension or not, the law must deal with them,” he urged.

He stressed “we don’t have to waste time on arresting those judges on retirement; what are they waiting for? They don’t have any disciplinary procedure against them and so straight away, they must be carried away to court to begin trial”.

He insisted the law must take its full course against the retired judges if they are found guilty.
