Managing Editor of the Insight Newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr says government has no justification for the persistent strikes in the country.

Reacting to the recent strike action by nurses over their unpaid salaries, Mr. Pratt says government is having challenges resolving the issue of labour unrest because it lacks professionalism.

He could not fathom why professionals who have been put at sensitive places in the health sector have failed to use their acquired knowledge to discharge their duties.

“Government has no excuse for these persistent strikes in the country. There are people who have been placed there to deliver professionally by making sure that public sector workers are paid fully but have failed to put into practice their work and I believe that is unprofessional” he noted.

The affected health workers, numbering over 7,000 from across the country say they would only rescind their decision to strike if government pays them their due in full.

Though President John Mahama has bemoaned the failure of the state to settle the salary arrears of striking nurses, the veteran journalist on Adom FM Thursday stressed the need for government to be more considerate about health workers since according to him, their job is an essential one.

"Health workers are very important in our country and for that matter needs to get the needed attention because they go through a lot to get their job done.

“I would have pardoned government if it was just unpaid salary but being in arrears for that long is very dangerous” he asserted.
