Four Remanded For Stealing 25 Bags Of Iodated Salt

The Tema Circuit Court �B� presided over by Mrs Ananda Aikins has remanded into prison custody five persons for stealing 25 bags of iodated salt valued at GH�414 from the Ningo Salt Industry. Ernest Kreku and Godwin Nuertey, security men at the industry, Moses Amanor, a labourer, Micheal Kanor and George Kwamina Sankofie, unemployed, were remanded to re-appear on September 22. Kreku, Nuertey and Amanor pleaded guilty to two counts of conspiracy to commit crime and stealing while Kanor and Sankofie also pleaded guilty to the charge of abetment of crime. Police Chief Inspector Ben Agbedanu said on August 28 Kreku informed Nuertey on phone that a consignment of salt was ready and parked at the company�s gate and asked him to bring money to convey it. Nuertey contacted Kanor who accompanied him to the industry where they gave GH� 100 to Amanor after which the three of them and Kreku carried the 25 bags of iodated salt from the company�s premises to an uncompleted building near the industry. Sankofie, who is a watchman at the building, aided them to hide the bags of salt at his premises.Chief Inspector Agbedanu said word of the theft reached management of the industry and the police were informed and when Police got to the uncompleted building they found Nuertey and Kanor asleep by the bags of salt. They were arrested and they mentioned the names of the rest as accomplices.
