Nigeria Gas Has No Relationship With Ghana Gas; We Will Not Cut Gas Supply To VRA - Alfred Ogbamey

Nigeria Gas has threatened to cut gas supply to Ghana between tomorrow and Thursday if the Volta River Authority (VRA) fails to honor its debt obligations.

The VRA is said to owe N-Gas more than $182 million and the Ghana National Gas Company (Ghana Gas) about $150 million, a situation which is said to be crippling operations of the two companies.

But as some of the media are trying to link the repercussion on Ghana Gas if Nigeria Gas cut gas supply to Ghana, the Public Relations Officer of Ghana Gas, Alfred Ogbamey has responded the action of the Nigeria Gas to Ghana will not affect the operations of Ghana Gas.

He expatiated that Ghana Gas is an independent body which extract its gas from the crude oil of the Jubilee Field in Ghana and not from Nigeria Gas.

He however wondered why the media is expecting a response from Ghana Gas over the intention of Nigeria Gas because both Ghana Gas and Nigeria Gas trade with Ghana by supplying gas to Volta River Authority (VRA) on different grounds.

He further intimated that as VRA owes Nigeria Gas over $180 million, similarly VRA owes Ghana Gas over $144 million; stressing he doesn’t know anything about Nigeria Gas cutting gas supply to VRA.

He assured that Ghana Gas has not and will cut gas supply to VRA even though the latter owes them huge money.

“Ghana Gas has no relationship with Nigeria Gas. I cannot comment on this issue because Nigeria Gas does not supply Ghana Gas any gas. This information is not known to me; we don’t deal with them in anyway. I am unable to speak to the issue about Nigeria Gas,” he stated.

“I don’t know if Nigeria Gas wants to cut gas supply to VRA; we are not cutting gas supply to VRA but we have asked them to pay us,” he added.
