Majority Leader of Parliament, Hon Alban K.S. Bagbin has described as deliberate exaggeration the allegation of corruption leveled by the immediate past Rector of the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), Professor Stephen Adei against Ghana’s Lawmaking House.

The Professor who was addressing guests at the 40th anniversary celebration of the SAPs school in Accra said some MPs shamefully go to the extent of demanding additional bribes to cater for their girlfriends.

Professor Adei also alleged that “at least 8 in 10 politicians in Ghana are glorified thieves although almost every need of theirs is met by the state; we have to stop it”.

Due to this comment, Hon Alban Bagbin, the NDC MP for Nadowli-Kaleo Constituency has posited that Professor Adei has crossed the red line for his understanding of the constitutional provision.

“I think Professor Adei has crossed the red line but it is left for the Privilege Committee to decide to haul him before the committee; it is up to Parliament to haul him before the committee because what he said amounts to contempt of Parliament…that is deliberate exaggeration; we don’t have any such evidence anywhere,” he charged.

Notwithstanding the constitutional provision which Prof. Adei has abused, Hon. Alban Bagbin professed the existence of corruption globally including and that those pointing accusing fingers at Members of Parliament cannot be seen as angels because wherever Prof. Adei operated, there must be some record of corruption.

The Nadowli-Kaleo MP also expressed surprised that Professor Stephen Adei could claim some MPs even demanded monies for their girlfriends.

“That actually took me by surprise but as an institution, we can’t say that we are corruption-free and we are putting some measures in place to try to contain it as the whole country is doing,” he stated.

He instigated that Parliament has adopted anti-corruption plan as they don’t want to have Anas Aremeyaw Anas turning his investigative cameras on them.
