Man, 26, In Police Grips For "Butchering" His Father

A 26-year-old man, Abdul Razak Issah Alhassan, is the grip of the Tema Community One police for assaulting and inflicting severe cutlass wounds on his father.

Abdul Razak claimed he committed the act because he had been neglected by his father, Issah Alhassan, 70, whom he also accused of constantly provoking him.

The suspect, a herdsman, struck the right side of his father's head, causing him to bleed profusely. The injured man was rushed to the Port Clinic at Community one where he is said to be responding to treatment.

Complaint 

The Public Relations Officer of the Tema Regional Police Command, Assistant Superintendent of Police, (ASP) Juliana Obeng said the suspect was arrested about 11 a.m. on Tuesday at Site 17, Community One after his mother, Hajia Hawa Issah lodged a complaint at the Community One police station.

She said in the suspect in the process of arrest by the police stabbed two policemen with a knife and fled but the police with the help of neighbours gave the suspect a chase and arrested him.

ASP Obeng said when the suspect was questioned; he accused the father of neglecting him and further added that the father has been provoking him.

Psychiatry evaluation  

The Police spokesperson said preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect has been undergoing psychiatric treatment at the psychiatry department of the Tema General Hospital.

She said investigations were on going to process the suspect for court.

Meanwhile, the two policemen who sustained knife wounds in their effort to arrest the suspect have been treated and discharged
