Member of Parliament for the people of Nkoranza North in the Brong Ahafo Region, Hon. Major Derek Yaw Oduro (Rtd) has not spared Professor Stephen Adei, the immediate past Rector of GIMPA for calling Ghana’s Parliamentarians “thieves” and “corrupt”.

The former GIMPA boss in a recent speech in Accra described 8 out of every 10 Ghanaian politicians as “glorified thieves”.

“The other day somebody asked me a question and I was as so shocked. The person asked whether I gave bribe to Parliament for them to pass GIMPA’s law. Not knowing that now if you want Parliament to pass anything else, not only do you bribe the committee, but after they have gotten their share, they ask you where is our ‘lap top’? In other words; you haven’t made provision for our girlfriends. It’s time now in Ghana for us to rise; and it for us to lay the foundations of righteousness in the next generation. Train your children to be servant-leaders wherever they are.

“…At least 8 in 10 politicians in Ghana are glorified thieves, although almost every need of theirs is met by the state. We have to stop it,” he said.

These comments from the academician has not gone down well with the NPP MP for which he says the Professor should be blamed for training Parliamentarians to be corrupt since 80 percent of the Members of Parliament were taught by him.

“Professor Adei taught about 80% of Parliamentarians and so if they are thieves and corrupt, then he taught them wrongly. We respect him a lot but it is bad to hear him denigrate Parliament when he has lectured many MPs”, he chided.

Major Derek Oduro (rtd) insisted that Professor Adei, being academician, clarifies his point and not spew words without basis.

“If he has about three (3) daughters who befriends corrupt Parliamentarians which he benefits from, which is why he passed those remarks, then he should come out and say so”, he sarcastically stated.
