Community Basketball League To Be Launched This Weekend

Come Sunday, October 18, athleticism will meet wit, team work, strategy, determination and skills as 10 communities battle for supremacy in the first community basketball league in Ghana. The 10 week league, dubbed Rhythm and Rims is organized by GameTime Entertainment, an entertainment outfit with support from Rush Energy Drink and Adidas. The Technical Director of GameTime Entertainment Mr Lewis Fadipe explained the aim of the tournament is to revive the love of basketball in Ghana and to strengthen neighbourhood connections, adding that the tournament will take over Accra every Sunday beginning October 24 till December 20. Games will take place on the Accra Polytechnic basketball courts. In all, 10 teams will represent their communities to battle it out for the ultimate trophy. Winning teams from the knockout phases will progress to the next stage of the competition he said. Mr Fadipe mentioned that the final tournament will be held on a special mobile basketball court, the first of its kind in Ghana at a special location to be announced. It will be spiced with celebrity presence and live performances by Ghanaian artists, mixes from top DJs, cheerleading, fireworks, and other activities. The competing teams are Dansoman Chiefs, Tema Sharks, Nima Vipers, Tudu Warriors and Korlebu Kings. Others include, Cape Coast Bears, Ashaiman Tigers and Sakumono Chargers. The rest are Teshie Lions and Osu Hawks. Mr Fadipe further added each team is sponsored by a different company meaning they are fully supported to do their best on the court. In that regard, we want to thank all our sponsors for coming through to support the sport. So which neighbourhood will stand tall at the end of the competition?
