Deputy Director of Communication of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kwaku Boahen has warned the Christian Counsel, Clergy, former Presidents and other civil societies to desist from commenting on the ongoing debate on the voters register.

The livid NDC man on Adom TV charged the clergy to stay off the debate because it is not their duty to determine for the Electoral Commission (EC), whether to do a new voter register for the people of Ghana or not.

He asked the clergy to concentrate on their gospel and leave the politicians to discharge their duties, stressing that, Christian council does not have the mandate to determine the way elections and its process should be handled in Ghana.

“If the Christian council has the power to appoint a President in Ghana, there wouldn’t be any elections in this country, that is why the people of Ghana have been given the mandate to vote,” Kwaku Boahen said.

He further indicated that, it is the same EC which supervised the elections of J. J. Rawlings, J. A. Kufour among others so all should leave the EC alone to work.

The NDC Deputy Communication Director mentioned that, the EC has given all party’s letter to come and defend their positions at the Alisa Hotel on the 29th -30 October, 2015 hence everyone should keep mute and watch on as the EC executes its work.

“I’m a deputy communications director of the NDC and I’m saying that is the stand point of the NDC and our response to the call by the clergy and those mounting pressure on the EC to change the voter register,” Boahene stressed

However, the Member of Parliament for Asante Akyem North Constituency, Kwadwo Baah Agyemang who was a panel member on the show was amazed by the comment of the NDC communications director and questioned whether his comments represent the stance of the NDC.

He could not believe the Christian Council which intervened in 2012 General Elections at the time rose to a crescendo could be warned to stay off the debate on having a clean electoral process.

"Today the NDC is warning the clergy, civil societies, former Presidents and all Ghanaians to shut up on the need to change the voter register...,?" he asked.

The Asante Akyem North MP was convinced that, the NDC has a hidden agenda about the register.
