Burkinabe & Ivorian Nationals In Ghana's Register...NDC Challenges NPP!

It appears the brouhaha over whether the current voters register is credible or not and whether there is the need for a new register is not likely to do now.

Months after the New Patriotic Party (NPP) strongly asserted that the country’s voters register is bloated and produced evidence of some Togolese nationals allegedly captured in Ghana's electoral register the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) is still not impressed.

The ruling party has thrown down the gauntlet to the opposition party to deliver the Burkina Faso and Côte d’Ivoire voters register which the latter has said will back its claim that remote nationals are without a doubt enlisted on the Ghanaian electoral roll.

The NDC also claims the opposition party NPP served notice it would make open the voters register of the two Franco-phone nations.

But it has been three (3) months since that promise was made, asserts the ruling party.

Leadership of the opposition party, a couple of months ago, strongly asserted that the country’s voters register is bloated.

The NPP’s running mate, Dr Mahamadu Bawumia at a press conference about two months ago stated that over 76, 286 people with same names and pictures are in the voters’ registers of both Ghana and Togo, which makes Ghana’s voters register not credible.

"Our investigative team got the Togo voters’ register which was freely shown preceding the 2015 Togolese elections. Utilizing facial bio-metric acknowledgment innovation, the framework has discovered 76,286 potential matches of the same individuals, with the same names and faces on the Ghanaian and also Togolese voters enlists; nearly 2000 of which we introduce in the force point presentation,

I ought to note that in this way, we have just finished under 10% of the work on the Togolese register and we will start work on contrasting the Ivorian register and Ghana’s in a matter of seconds and take after that with the Burkina Faso register," Dr Bawumia reportedly said.

But Deputy Genereal Secretary of the NDC, Koku Anyidoho has challenged the NPP to make good their word, since Ghanaians are waiting for that particular piece of evidence.

The NPP’s claim is baseless. The party knows it has already lost the 2016 elections. They look at how we the NDC is focused and united around President John Mahama, as against how indiscipline has wrapped around their shoulders. The party knows clearly it cannot win with this register...,” He said on Kasapa FM.

He further claims the NPP has resorted to making all sorts of bogus allegation to have the current voters register changed so that it could populate it with minors especially in its stronghold.

"...NPP wants the process for the compilation of a new register started so that it could populate it with minors especially in its stronghold...You are saying let my vote count, the EC is also saying let the voices of the other parties and civil society organization count, but you are not allowing that to happen. The NPP is behaving like one of the two women who presented their case before the great King Solomon in the Bible. After we have all taken our case to the EC, the NPP is making noise just like the evil woman the Bible talks about.

While we (NDC) say the register must be left untouched like the baby, the NPP wants it replaced for their parochial interest. They have absolutely no case but just making useless noise,” Mr Anyidoho stated.
