Residents of Bekwai in the Ashanti region, particularly New Patriotic Party (NPP) members, are in high spirits to host Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the party’s vice presidential candidate.
The NPP kingpin is expected in the town today (Saturday) where he is the special guest speaker of a historic party programme being organized by the Bekwai constituency youth wing.
The programme, which is under the theme, ‘Change is Coming, Youth of Ghana Take Charge,’ is expected to be hugely patronized by NPP members and sympathizers in Bekwai and the nearby towns and villages.
Significantly, the programme would be Dr. Bawumia’s first official public engagement since he returned to the country from the Holy City of Mecca where he joined millions of Muslims to perform this year’s Hajj.
The NPP youth wing, DAILY GUIDE’s checks indicated, is organizing the event ostensibly to energize the party’s youth in the constituency to work hard ahead of the 2016 polls.
Residents of Bekwai are said to be delighted after news hit the town that Dr. Bawumia, a luminary in matters about the economy, would be attending the programme to speak to them.
The paper gathered that majority of the Bekwai residents were eager to attend the programme at the lorry park to catch a glimpse of Dr. Bawumia and also listen to him.
Meanwhile, according to sources, that Dr. Bawumia would be engaged in other activities in the Ashanti Region, including visiting the Central Mosque in Kumasi before returning to his base in Accra.
