Choose Parliamentary Candidates Wisely Mahama To Delegates

President John Dramani Mahama has asked delegates of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to be prudent in their selection of parliamentary candidates in the party’s upcoming primaries.

The party goes to the polls on November 7, to elect parliamentary reps and a presidential candidate, ahead of the 2016 general elections.

In a bid to avoid what has become known as ‘skirt and blouse’ voting in the Ghanaian political scene where disgruntled party followers vote for the presidential candidate but against the parliamentary candidate, President Mahama is urging delegates to choose wisely.

According to him, when delegates are able to select the preferred candidates, he or she gets the support of all for the benefit of the party.

The president made the appeal during an interaction with members at the Ahinsan Youth Centre in Kumasi, in the Ashanti Region, ahead of a sod-cutting ceremony to pave way for construction works at the Kejetia Market.

“We lost the parliamentary seat but won the presidential; it only proves that the candidate was not the best for the people, so this time we are going to be more focused on choosing someone who will represent the party better. You should consider someone who is loved by the whole constituency and not NDC members alone; someone who can pull enough votes. When we are able to elect such competent leaders then we can win more seats in Parliament and also retain power in 2016 by the grace of God”.
