Porn Movie Is For Lazy Producers David Owusu

Ghanaian producer and CEO of Media5 Promotions David Owusu has condemned suggestions by some Ghanaian filmmakers that shooting porn movies would be the appropriate measure to resurrect the ailing film industry in the country.

According to David, it is not the right thing to do and that only lazy producers would support and push such a filthy agenda.

“…some producers in Ghana have come to say that the industry is retrogressing and TV stations are showing foreign Telenovelas that portray nudity during primetime therefore the only way forward is to produce porn moves. To me, it is not the right thing. I will say it is the laziest Ghanaian movie producer who will want to do porn movie because the industry is diminishing. Two wrongs do not make a right,” he said on his channel on Youtube.com.

His comment follows a recent revelation by Michael Kweku Ola, Public Relations Officer (PRO) for Film Producers Association of Ghana (FIPAG), that some of the association’s members would start producing and promoting pornographic films if laws concerning the business are not properly enforced.

Ola was subsequently supported by controversial producer Socrates Sarfo but David Owusu said it’s unacceptable.

“Ghanaians can’t accept it. And it’s illegal to do such movies. Our society is already battling immorality among the youth … Teenage pregnancy, sexually transmitted diseases like Hepatitis B and AIDS are on the increase and instead of doing movies that help curb these cankers, why because market is diminishing? No, this is unacceptable,” he also told News-One.

“I think doing porn movies will rather worsen the case because parents won’t buy them into their homes for fear of their children watching them… I will rather advise my colleague producers, who out of frustration want to do porn to give themselves a break…, research into the various marketing avenues available now… both locally and abroad, write unique concepts and come back. By doing this, I believe they can find their feet back unto the market.

“I salute producers like Samuel Nyamekye of Miracle Films, Peace and Love Films, Frank Fiifi Gharbin and Je Cind Pictures who just produced ‘Megye Wo Girl’, a classic comedy Twi movie…

These producers are doing top quality movie that are keeping the industry on its toes. These producers are selling and not thinking of doing porn because of the adoption of a new strategy, which I entreat all producers to emulate… The Ghana movie industry hasn’t collapsed…, there is more hope for the industry than before he concluded.
