Sack Power Minister - Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe

A leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, has called on the Minister of Power, Dr Kwabena Donkor, to resign his position.

Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe said if the minister failed to resign and apologise he should be relieved of his position by the President.\

Dr Donkor lost his temper during an interview with a Kumasi-based radio station, Ash FM, on Tuesday, October 13, 2015. This was after the host had asked about President

Mahama’s recent promise to end dumsor. An angry Dr Donkor retorted: “If President Mahama says dumsor will be over very soon, why don’t you ask him? am I his spokesman?”

According to Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe, Dr Donkor’s reaction to the legitimate questions posed by the journalist indicates a lack of respect for Ghanaians.

Suffering Ghanaian

But speaking to the Daily Graphic, Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe stated: “He is not the only one who is stressed. The common Ghanaian suffering because of dumsor is also stressed."

He said Dr Donkor’s demeanour was inconsistent with the humble demeanour of the President who appointed him.

Sacking himself

“This minister took office with enormous goodwill from all Ghanaians and everyone wanted him to succeed. Indeed, he vowed to sack himself if the energy situation did not improve by the end of 2015. That is why the question was legitimate,’’ Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe said.

According to him, though to err is human, Dr Donkor should have apologised at the earliest opportunity, or resigned but failing this, he should be relieved of his position.

"I don't know why we do not have a culture of resignation in this country. It is time for people to be held accountable for their actions," Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe stressed.
