Director of Communications of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Ibrahim Sannie Daara, has denied media reports that the Black Stars received a whopping $230,000 from match agents Top Global, in the Canada friendly.

He was reacting yesterday on Asempa FM, an Accra- based radio station, to claims made by Ghana Sports News online editor, Dan Kwaku Yeboah, that the organisers of the Ghana-Canada friendly used $400,000 for the game in which the Black Stars pocketed $230,000, while Canada received $80,000.

According to Daara, an ex-BBC journalist, the money received from the game which was played on October 13, 2015 at the RFK Stadium in Washington DC, was $200,000 – and not $230,000 as reported.

He said that the figures mentioned by Kwaku Yeboah, were “guess figures” and stated that the actual contract they signed with the match agents was $200,000, part of which was used to pay players who participated in the game.

The FA spokesman asserted that each player of the Black Stars received an amount of $5,000 as bonus “which had been the normal practice for ages for players who take part in international friendlies for Ghana, irrespective of the scoreline.”

He explained why the Canadians received $80,000 for the game, saying contracts signed by organisers in every friendly game was mainly based on preparation and the pedigree of both teams involved in the game, adding that the position of Ghana and Canada on the FIFA ranking was considered before the contract was signed.
