Dr Afari-Gyan Acted Unprofessionally By Disqualifying Me - Nana Konadu

Former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings has described as unprofessional, the decision by the former Chair of the Electoral Commission (EC), Dr Kwadwo Afari-Gyan to disqualify her from the 2012 Presidential Elections.

According to her, Dr Afari-Gyan “acted wrongly and unprofessionally” on the day she presented her nomination forms to the EC in her bid to contest the elections on the ticket of the National Democratic Party (NDP).

She said on Joy FM Tuesday morning, that she met all the requirements of the EC.

She said, “I think he acted wrongly and unprofessionally with the way he behaved. Flipping through the paper as if that was my nomination form, but that was not my nomination form. He was using somebody else’s nomination form to misinform the public and that was wrong.”

NDP

The former First Lady also denied being the founder of the NDP.

According to her, she knew nothing about the formation of the party.

“Truthfully, I did not found it. I had travelled and I came back and I heard that there was a new party in the making, NDP. They gave me the reasons why and I decided to be part of it,” she said.

According to her, her reason for joining the party was based on the ideals of the party, of which she related to.

“It sounded good. It was going to be something that would be doing better than others are doing. It was going to have a certain clear motive, clear direction on how Ghana should go. We were going to have objectives that will lift the country out from poverty to a certain level…not by words but by deeds. I definitely joined it because I believed in the objectives,” she explained.

Mrs Rawlings also denied wanting to be the flagbearer of the party during the 2012 elections, saying, “It wasn’t that I declared that I wanted to run but the regions had asked me to run. And I did agree to run.”
