Recent call by President Mahama on Ghanaians to prepare to higher tariffs if we want an end to ‘dumsor’, has been branded senseless by the Northern Regional branch of the New Patriotic Party.

The party in a press release copied to Peacefmonline.com Correspondent in the region described the call as “senseless, wicked and irresponsible”. According to them, President Mahama’s inability to resolve the nations’ power crisis goes a long way to confirm position taken by critics that this current administration is full of stillborn promises.

The President said “if genuinely we want reliable, sustainable power then the price then the price will have to go up. If we don’t want any more dumsor then we will have to pay more”.

The NPP believes however the call will continue to over burden the already poor Ghanaian society and an indicated a failed and incompetent government.

"The president's call is also an indication that the NDC government has failed to provide reliable power to the good people of Ghana and further demonstrate the inability and lack of competence in putting pragmatic measures in place to bring an end to the dumsor dumsor crisis." 

The release read by the Regional Secretary, Mr. Sule Salif also chides the Power Minister, Hon. Kwabena Donkor for his recent radio tantrums, calling him clueless and lacking the capacity to resolve the protracted energy crisis.

"The inability of the Power Minister to confirm to the media some few days ago, as to whether the statement made by the President that, the energy crisis will end soon was also a demonstration of lack of capacity to resolve the energy crisis, hence his reference to the president."

The regional secretariat also threatened that "there will be no elections in Ghana in 2016 if the existing Voters register is not changed with a credible one". It says the party will collaborate with other parties and Civil Society Organizations to fiercely resist foreigners deciding for them who should lead the country.

It is therefore "calling on the entire suffering masses to Rally behind the NPP and other Civil Society Organizations calling on the Electoral Commission Of Ghana to replace the current Voters register with a credible one which will be accepted by all political players in the country for peace to prevail before, during and after the 2016 elections."

The party also wants the National Peace Council, National House of Chiefs, Religious Leaders and the International Community to intervene for a credible register for the 2016 Elections.
