Voters Register Issue Above NPP and NDCs Interest; They Arent More Ghanaians Than Others - Osafo Maafo

Former Minister of Finance in the erstwhile Kufuor’s administration, Hon. Nana Yaw Osafo Maafo has openly censured the main two political parties with the largest base in the country; the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) over their entrenched positions on the issue of the voters’ register.

According to the Former Education Minister, the unyielding stance of both parties either auditing of the current register or a completely new register does not bode well for the country, since Ghana is not the bona fide property of either parties.

He pointed out that none of the two parties, can determine the way forward in addressing the issue of a bloated voter’s register.

Speaking on Okay Fm’s Ade Akye Abia Morning Show, the former NPP MP for Akyem Oda Constituency averred Ghanaians have allowed both the ruling NDC and opposition NPP to act as if they own the country.

We should accept that there are many more other people in Ghana who don’t belong to NDC and NPP and so whenever there is an issue concerning the progress of the country, these parties should listen to other views as well. You cannot be more Ghanaians that the Catholic Secretariat, Christian Council or the Muslim Council; they are also Ghanaians”, he stated.

Hon. Nana Yaw Osafo Maafo was of the assertion politicians alone should not credit themselves as the only people knowledgeable in political issues as some elders in the country can even school politicians on the subject of politics.

…with this issue, we should exercise patience and listen to diverse views on the matter. So institutions like IEA, when it sets agenda to discuss the voters’ register, it is important to acknowledge the institute with honor and respect to participate in its discussion,” he emphasized.
