Did NPP Lie Or Are The Party's Claims Accurate? That Is The Crux Of The Matter! - Osafo Maafo

In the quest to find lasting solution to the brouhaha surrounding the current voters’ register, the former Finance Minister under Ex-President Kufuor’s administration says it lies in the bosom of the Electoral Commission to investigate allegations raised by the opposition NPP.

According to him, the EC's findings into the allegations raised will put to rest claims that some pictures were scanned and the register is infiltrated with foreign names.

He insisted the remedy to the alleged fraudulent register is when the Electoral Commission comes out with its report to first of all affirm or reject the assertions mentioned in the press conference of the opposition NPP.

Touching on the alleged scanned pictures, Hon. Nana Yaw Osafo Maafo on Okay Fm’s Ade Akye Abia Morning Show intimated it bothers on criminality which should be taken serious by the EC since no outsider can have access to scan pictures into the register except someone from within the EC.

These are some of the reasons we are requesting to find out whether EC has investigated these allegations and if not then she has disappointed all of us…I am not here to say the allegations are true or not but the issue remains whether she has investigated the allegations or not,” he stressed.

He added “if you call for a meeting without investigating the allegations as an independent body, then what is the essence of the public presentations by all political parties when it not clear to public whether NPP lied or stated the truth”.

He made it crystal clear that he has no problem if the auditing will solve the problem in the voters’ register but demanded to know "if the auditing is affirming the allegations raised by the NPP."

The NPP stalwart also questioned how the EC will go about its audit of the register, wondering if it will segregate foreign materials from the register and also announce to the nation the cost of auditing in comparison with the cost of producing a fresh register.

It may be that creating a new register is cheaper as somebody said during the IEA debate that if you have structural effect on a building, it is cheaper to pull it down and build another one than to repair it...all these will depend on the EC's investigations into the allegations raised by NPP and give us assurance on the way forward,” he stated.
