The former National Democratic Congress (NDC) constituency chairman of Madina, Armiyawu Abdul-Rahim, has embarked on an aggressive campaign for change in the forthcoming NDC parliamentary primaries.

Mr Abdul-Rahim, who is seeking to represent the party as its parliamentary candidate for the 2016 elections, is leaving no stone unturned within the constituency to attain his objective.

His campaign is making some inroads and has set fire under the feet of Mr Amadu Sorogo, the incumbent member of parliament of the Madina Constituency who is also doing everything possible to get elected and retain the seat for the NDC.

As chairman of the Board of the Ghana Fire Service, Mr Sorogo is facing stiff competition from other contestants, namely Mr Xavier Sosu and Mr Baba Ibrahim.

Very confident that he will beat the other contestants, Mr Sorogo is putting up a strong show to get the slot to retain the seat.

Wind of change

But according to Mr Abdul-Rahim, a new wind of change was blowing in the constituency, which would culminate in his election to represent the NDC as its parliamentary candidate for the Madina Constituency in the 2016 elections.

To concretise plans to win the NDC primaries, Mr Abdul-Rahim recently organised an outreach programme to sensitise members of the NDC about the new wind of change blowing.

The outreach programme took him to five different areas in the constituency, namely Madina West, Tatana, Social Welfare, La Nkwantanan and Adenta West.

He said though the other contestants would put up a strong show for the seat, he was confident he would beat them all.

Vision

Abdul-Rahim indicated that his vision for the constituency was to tackle youth unemployment.

That, he would do by implementing the President’s Youth In Agriculture policy at three locations within the constituency, specifically Pantang, Oyarifa and Teiman.

He said the project, when implemented, would engage 1,500 youth in the constituency.

“The project would lay emphasis on Agriculture mechanisation and high skill and intensive programme in poultry farming.”

The aspirant stressed that he would seek the collaboration of companies, organisations and departments such as the DIZENGOF Company of Ghana and the Crop Science Department of the University of Ghana.

Security

Touching on security, Mr Abdul-Rahim said he had donated building materials worth GH¢3,000 for the development of the community police station at Teiman.
