The Nkoranza Police have arrested two robbers for stealing 31 livestock, comprising 29 goats and two sheep from an undisclosed area.

Nana Kofi Agyekum Kumi, 43 and Kwadwo Tease, 42, were arrested on Thursday by a Community Neibourhood Watchdog Committee (CNWC) at Ayerede near Nkoranza on the Nkoranza- Ejura road in the Brong-Ahafo Region.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Joseph Owusu, Municipal Police Commander told the Ghana News Agency at the weekend that, the suspects were travelling on a Nissan pick-up vehicle with registration number AS 554-13 from Ejura in the Ashanti Region with the animals.

A CNWC at Aperede, also near Nkoranza had earlier on Thursday attempted to arrest the suspects but the vehicle driver ignored the signal to stop and sped off, he said.

The group chased the suspects with motor-bikes and eventually found them at an obscure place on one of the streets in the Nkoranza township while the vehicle had stuck in a mud as a result of a downpour the previous day, the Police Commander added.

He said at 0330 hours the Police Patrol Team moving along the Ejura-Nkoranza road had a tip-off at Ayerede and consequently arrested of the suspected robbers.

DSP Owusu said in the course of the gun exchange between the robbers and the Ayerede CNWC, some of the bullets hit the left arm of Tease, so he was taken to the Nkoranza Saint Teresa’s Catholic Hospital and is responding to treatment.

He said further investigation is being conducted by the Police to take the suspects to court.
