Akufo-Addo Is Broke

Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s dream of getting the keys to the seat of government in his possibly but, last attempt at the presidency, is gradually becoming an illusion as information reaching The aL-hAJJ indicates that the twice defeated presidential candidate is bankrupt.

Following the two extravagant campaigns he staged ahead of the 2008 and 2012 elections, and funding of the last flagbearer contest, Nana Akufo-Addo is reported in dire financial crisis.

A former press secretary of ex-president Kufuor, Andrew Awuni last week revealed that between the last two elections, “an amount of over 100 million dollars has been disbursed into party’s coffers” but wondered what the money had been used to do.

According to deep throat sources in the NPP, Nana Akufo-Addo’s financial predicament has gone so bad that he had to rely on an “unapproved”£100000 from the party coffers to embark on his last but one European tour.

Having squandered his personal fortune as well as family resources in his two previous and fruitless attempts at the presidency, the former Abuakwa South Member of Parliament, according to a very reliable source, is banking all hopes on his cousin, Ken Ofori Atta of the struggling Data Bank and overhyped self-made millionaire Kennedy Ohene Adjapong for financial bailout.

“If you’ve noticed, Ken Adjapong has become so powerful in the NPP because of Nana. Nana’s last hope now is Ken Adjapong and Ken Ofori Atta, who is virtually his campaign funds manager…that is why Ken Adjapong can openly insult Kufuor and Mpiani, and the only thing Nana will say is to appeal to him to stop discussing NPP issues in the media…he cannot condemn Ken,” the source noted.

What is said to have worsened Nana Akufo-Addo’s situation is the intense bickering in the NPP, which sources say, has made the party unattractive to potential financiers, with most of them vowing not to further spend “money on another fruitless venture in 2016.”

Some NPP financiers, The aL-hAJJ gathered, have resolved not to commit resources to Nana Akufo-Addo’s 2016 campaign “because they think the party will lose the 2016 election and also they are not happy with the way the party’s finances are being managed.

With all the financiers Nana Akufo-Addo was hoping to boost his campaign turning their back at him, the perplexed flag bearer is said to be considering looking for other avenues as soon as possible to activate his campaign machinery in order to win the 2016 elections.

What has heightened the present tension in the party leading to the dismissal Paul Afoko, according to Andrew Awuni, “is all about the control of the party's finances and useless worshipping of a human being.”

“Recently, GH¢3 million was released to the party. Kwabena gave each constituency an amount of GH¢10,000. This flared up emotions because the money was not released to the executives to spend lavishly. Subsequently another 45 million was released which landed on the laps of Abankwa then the battle began. So aren't they seeing what Mahama is doing? Making the NDC so attractive today," he stated on Neat Fm last week.

Even though happenings in the NPP points to another defeat in 2016, nevertheless, Nana Akufo-Addo, party sources told this paper, is in dire search of victory in the next presidential elections in order to recoup all the investments he has lost since he started chasing his childhood dream and also pay his debts.

He is also said to have promised to create opportunities for sponsors who will gamble with their resources in the midst of the turmoil in the NPP to support him for the 2016 elections in the unlikely event he is elected president.
