Nana Addo Behind Attempts To Rerun Klottey Korle Primaries

Spokesperson for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate of the Klottey Korle constituency, Charles Macarthy, has alleged that the party’s Flagbearer, Nana Akufo Addo and the Minority Leader, Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu, are behind attempts for a rerun of the primaries in that constituency.

Philip Addison earlier boycotted the primaries, describing it as a sham.

The elections took place despite his decision, with his main opponent, Nii Noi Nortey, beating him with 393 votes whiles he managed 22 votes, while the other contender, Nii Adjei Tawiah, got 19 votes.

Lawyer Addison has since petitioned the matter demanding a rerun of the polls.

There is tension in the constituency following the sudden appearance of his campaign posters, giving credence to reports of a possible rerun of the primaries.

But in an interview with Citi News, Charles Macarthy said a rerun of the primaries in that constituency would be illegal.

He warned that Nii Noi Nortey will not participate in the primaries if it comes off.

“The point is that, we don’t care whether Addison wants a rerun, a fresh election or old election. It wasn’t Nii Noi who organised that election. That election was organised at the instance of the national party. It was the General Secretary who issued the statement after NEC meeting, fixed a date and we went to the election. For us, the election is over. We are done, Nii Noi is the Parliamentary Candidate. If Addison wants to contest, he should organize his own election and contest.”

“It baffles me that Addison flaunts himself as a lawyer. He should know better. The Electoral Commission does not organize election until they are told to do so, a fact he must know.”

The comments Nii Nortey’s camp come days after the Campaign team of Philip Addison said they were optimistic there would be a rerun of the primaries.

“The purported election is not what it is and we are optimistic there will be a rerun. We presented a petition; and we are very sure whatever the case, we will be vindicated,” the Campaign Manager of Addison, Norman Tetteh told Citi News in an earlier interview.

Philip Addison was the lead Counsel for Nana Akufo-Addo when the party went to court to challenge the outcome of the 2012 general elections.
