An official of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), Abraham Hirohito Kabah, has been elected the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the People’s National Convention (PNC).

He polled 119 votes to beat off the challenge by Ibrahim Punamani, who garnered 82 votes.

This was at the party’s regional conference held at the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) Hall in Kumasi under the theme “Reigniting the spirit of the PNC through the grassroots”.

Other officers elected were Joseph Boakye Danquah, Vice Chairman, Sulemana Seidu, Secretary, Arime Yawo, Organizer, Alhaji Mohammed Sakibu, Treasurer, Madam Wasilat Shuaib, Women’s Organizer, and Muniru Seidu Youth Organizer.

They would manage the affairs of the party in the region for the next four years.

Some leading members of the party including the 2012 flagbearer, Mr. Hassan Ayariga, Dr. Edward Nasigri Mahama, also a former Presidential Candidate, and Mr. Bernard Mornah, General Secretary, were on hand to witness the election.

It comes ahead of the PNC’s national congress at Wa, the Upper West Regional Capital, on November 28.

Dr. Mahama, who has announced his decision to run for its presidential ticket, rallied the members to unite and accept to work hard to win over more voters.

The PNC, he said, needed to step up its game to convince Ghanaians to trust them with their votes to restore hope to the nation and put the economy on a real path of growth.

He expressed optimism about the party’s chances in the next year general elections and said all that they needed to do was to pull together - sing from the same hymn sheet.

Mr. Ayariga reminded the elected officers and supporters to show strong commitment, loyalty and make sacrifices to bring more vibrancy into the party.

“The PNC has come to stay and why can we not unite to grow it?” he asked.

Mr. Mornah noted that many were unhappy with the performance of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) and with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) mired in internal squabbles, he said the PNC remained the party of choice.
