Dr. Charles Wereko-Brobby, the Chief Policy Analyst of the Ghana Institute for Public Policy Options (GIPPO), a policy Think Tank has stated categorically that hell must not swallow Ghana up due to anomalies detected in the current voters’ register.

According to him, no country in the world has ever seen clean voters’ register including the United States of America which is rich and deep in democracy in the world.

The US government has stated that it is concerned about developments in Ghana and is monitoring the situation closely.

Speaking to journalists at the ongoing Edward Murrow Journalists Program in Washington DC, US Ambassador-designate to Ghana, Robert Porter Jackson lauded the Electoral Commission for setting up a committee to look into allegations of a bloated register.

But speaking at the public forum on the call for a new register, Dr. Wereko-Brobby warned that EC must take steps to solve its own problems since the US is also having voter register issues in several countries.

Dr. Wereko-Brobby showed a report that counties in the US have very bloated registers adding that people not the paper is the ultimate subject that ought to be reformed.

A public interest law firm in August this year threatened to bring lawsuits against more than 100 counties across the United States that appear to have more registered voters than living residents.

The Public Interest Legal Foundation (PILF), a law firm dedicated to election integrity based in Indiana, recently sent statutory notice letters to election officials in 141 counties putting them on notice of their discoveries. The group said if action is not taken to correct the questionable voter rolls, they will bring lawsuits against every single county on the list.

Dr. Wereko-Brobby in his presentation also stated that every voters’ register used since 1992 has been bloated, adding both the NDC and the NPP have benefited from bloated registers in elections.

“Every single register used since 1992 has been bloated. Let’s not worry too much about register if it is bloated. Indeed, both parties have benefited from bloated registers so do we declare the past presidents illegally elected?” He asked rhetorically.
