Ghana�s Youth Delegate Participates In The 2015 UN General Assembly

Joyce Okyerewaa Danso, winner of �The Diplomat�, a Model United Nations (UN) competition represented Ghana as a youth observer at the just ended 70th United Nation�s General Assembly Sessions in New York, USA. The 23-year old, a graduate from the University of Ghana was invited after her outstanding performance in �The Diplomat� a Model UN competition, organized by Life Link Friendship Schools Ghana to instil the ideals of the UN as well as the crucial roles of its diplomats among young people. Ghana�s official delegation was led by H.E. President John Dramani Mahama, together with the Executive Director of Life Link Friendship Schools, Mr. Ernest Gyimah-Danquah and Anny Adams, another delegate from Ghana, participated in a number of meetings during the 70th UN General Assembly session, interacted with diplomats and observed the General Assembly proceedings. The delegation were granted audience by Ghana�s Ambassador to the U.S, Brigadier Joseph Henry Smith and Ghana�s Permanent Representative to the UN, H.E. Mrs. Martha Pobee. Ms. Danso told journalists her selection and inclusion in the delegation has challenged her to do more for the youth of Ghana. �I am motivated to remain a worthy envoy for Ghanaian youth and for Life Link Ghana in order that next year the Ministry can find it useful to include more youth delegates�, she said as she prepares to engage various sections of Ghanaian youth within the year to share her experiences with them. Every year, Life Link Friendship Schools, organizes series of Model UN programs for Junior High School, High School and Tertiary to groom future diplomats, teaching them about global issues, negotiation skills, leadership and crisis resolution. The program select youth to represent Ghana at different youth leadership sessions in New York, Washington DC, Harvard, Rome, Osaka among others. The Executive Director of Life-Link Ghana, Ernest Gyimah-Danquah was grateful to government, the UN Office in Ghana and the US Embassy in Accra for what he described as �tremendous support which ensured a successful trip�.
