Kofi Amoako a trader, who beat a woman trader mercilessly for accusing him of stealing her money and eggs, was on Tuesday convicted on his own plea of guilty to a fine of GH�200 by the Kade District Magistrate Court.
In default Amoako, popularly known as �Obolo�, would go to prison for six months in hard labour.
Additionally, Amoako was ordered to pay the complainant, Christiana Agyapomaa, GH�100 as compensation.
Police Chief Inspector Eric Zorh, prosecuting, told the court that both complainant and the convict were natives of Asuom in the Kwaebibirem District.
He said on August 20, this year, at about 1230 hours, Agyapomaa after selling for the day, kept her sales and some items including eggs and bread in her store in the presence of Amoako.
The prosecutor said at about 0630 hours the next day, Agyapomaa went to the store only to discover that it had been forcibly opened and her unspecified amount of money with some eggs stolen.
Later Agyapomaa saw Amoako and confronted him about the theft but he became offended and attacked the woman beating her mercilessly in the presence of witnesses.
The prosecutor said Agyapomaa reported the case to the police and was issued with a medical form to attend hospital for treatment.
On August 22, Amoako was arrested and after investigations arraigned before the court.
