The Accra Regional office of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has started sorting out 18,555 licences for distribution to their owners.
The sorting involves arranging the licences in alphabetical order for easy identification.
The Accra Regional Manager of DVLA, Mr Noah Tetteh Matey, told the Daily Graphic that that arrangement was to facilitate the easy release of the licences to owners, since the alphabets would be used in tracing the licences.
He said personnel of the office had been deployed to assist in the sorting out to speed up the processes for distribution and collection.
He gave the indication that the sorting would be over by Wednesday, November 4, 2015, and the distribution would begin the next day.
Delays
The DVLA was unable to release about 40,000 licenses to drivers across the country since the beginning of 2014 due to difficulties with printing.
Last Sunday, the DVLA announced the release of 40,000 licences to its offices across the country.
Mr Matey said the last time the regional office received licences, which comprised new and replacement onces , was in February, 2014.
He said the 18,555 licences that his office received covered applications up to September, 2015, and indicated that it was only licence applications for October that were outstanding.
He described the release of the licences as a big relief, since his office would be spared the incessant insults from motorists.
