Street Hawker Turns Miss Ghana Hopeful

One of the most confident contestants to have expressed optimism of wearing the Miss Ghana 2015 crown is Charlotte Derban, a former street hawker.

Charlotte says her background is her greatest motivation to work harder at winning the crown and revealed that she was once upon a time a street hawker at Takoradi.

“Coming from a very poor background, anyone who knew me from Takoradi would testify that at a very young age I hawked on the street to support my parents to take care of myself and my siblings through school. I am still striving hard to see my family become successful. I will never give up in life; I continue to fight for better results,” she stated.

Charlotte is competing with 20 other beautiful and brilliant ladies in the country’s premier and oldest pageant but she is optimistic she has all the qualities to win the enviable crown.

“I believe I have powerful and impressive qualities to be Miss Ghana 2015. I am obedient and have the ability to control my behaviour. I am a good listener with a quick learning attitude. Also, one needs to have qualities to attract companies to support the national brand. I have won three other pageants in the past and the possibility that Ghana could win Miss World 2015 would be high if I am crowned Miss Ghana 2015,” she said.

The 2015 Miss Ghana grand finale will take place coming Saturday, November 7 at the International Conference Centre in Accra. The event is anticipated to attract a myriad of pageant and music fans to witness another crowning ceremony. There will be performances from Gyedu Blay Ambolley, Steve Bedi, Sherifa Gunu and Wiyaala.

Ahead of the finale, Miss Derban won the first Miss Ghana challenge, ‘Cooking Competition’, held at the Rawlings Park, Accra weeks back. She beat 20 other contestants of the pageant, raising her hopes of winning the main event as the representative of the Western Region.

Prior to competing in Miss Ghana 2015, she has been active in Ghana’s entertainment industry. She is an actress, a commercial model and a musician. She has featured in The Island, a TV series which stars Omotola on DSTV and played a supporting role in Office Palava season 5. She also played a supporting role in Every Woman Has A Story which is yet to be aired on DSTV. Her commercial credits include Special Ice Mineral Water, Coca-Cola, Menthox and others. She has starred in movies such as Shattered Romance, She Prayed, The Wife and Beautiful Ruins among others.

She also recorded two singles and is yet to release her first and long awaited video of her second single titled ‘Baby’ featuring Qweci (Ded Buddy). The video features Twoo Thoozin, Kalybos father in the airtel TVC, and her cousin Lorenda Derban (Miss Malaika semi-finalist 2014) among others.
