St. John’s School located in the Sekondi-Takoradi metropolis put up a spirited performance to win the maiden breast cancer awareness quiz organized by BCI, Ghana in collaboration with the Ghana Education Service (GES).

The Roman Catholic school scored 63 points to win the competition from Takoradi Senior High School and Ahantaman Senior High School.

The two schools scored 62 points and 57 points respectively.

After the final fourth round, St. John’s School and Takoradi SHS had scored 58 points apiece and needed another set of questions to separate them.

The stakes were very high at this point as the two schools did their best to answer the questions that were posed to them by the quiz master.

However, it was St. John’s School that got the better points to emerge winner after scoring additional five points against four scored by Takoradi SHS.

Prizes were awarded to the competing schools during the BCI Ghana Walk for the Cure.

The three schools were part of six schools that were engaged at the preliminary stage of the competition held on Tuesday, October 27, 2015 at the Regional Education Office, Sekondi.

The event is under the auspices of Breast Care International (BCI), Ghana and the Western Regional Directorate of the Ghana Education Service.

Dr. Beatrice Wiafe Addai commenting on the event congratulated the three schools for displaying their knowledge about breast cancer and related diseases.

She was particularly happy about the spirited performance put up by the boy’s school in winning the maiden contest.

“I am happy that the boys emerged as the winners. It means that in future no man will divorce his wife because she has breast cancer, no man will drive the wife away from the house because she has breast cancer because you men now understands the problems related to breast cancer. I know the way men love their mothers. This kind of knowledge that you have shown in no doubt shows that the future is going to be brighter,” she noted.

She promised to sustain the event even at the national level since the students have demonstrated that it was an event worth organizing.
