Ghana participates in World Travel Market Fair

Ghana is participating in the World Travel Market (WTM) Fair which commenced on Monday November 2 in London, United Kingdom.

The WTM Fair, which is the world’s leading Travel Trade Show, is an annual event in London and seen as a prime meeting place and an excellent opportunity to meet business partners.

As a global travel event, the fair aims to increase tourism trade deals, international networking with travel professionals, buyers and providing travel business intelligence.

Mrs Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, said Ghana’s participation in this year’s trade exhibition would help encourage global tour operators and travel agents to highlight Ghana on their tour circuits.

In line with the Ministry’s mandate to develop and sustain tourism for national development, the Minister’s delegation included a cross section of the tourism trade associations and the creative arts practitioners, with the view to showcase Ghana’s excellent diverse tourism and cultural heritage.

The Minister said the fair would afford Ghana the opportunity to inform and sensitise investors about investment incentives and opportunities available in the tourism, culture and creative arts sectors.

“For Ghana, the World Travel Market continues to be one of the best platforms to deepen relationships with UK and also to develop some strategic European international travel trade,” Mrs Ofosu-Adjare added.

She said the UK market was a very strong one for Ghana and both countries have a very close historical relationship, which must be sustained for mutual benefits.

The Minister spoke briefly about Ghana’s unique tourism sector when she was given the opportunity by the moderator of the ministerial summit, CNN’s Anchorman Richard Quest, to give the short tagline for Ghana.

Ghana’s participation at the World Travel Market will be climaxed with Ghana Day Celebration to showcase the rich tapestry of Ghanaian culture and creativity in music and dance, a taster session of variety of Ghanaian cuisine, as well as, assorted made in Ghana products.

It was expected that a number of participants at this year’s WTM fair would patronise the Ghana stand to enjoy the proverbial Ghanaian hospitality.

Ghana’s delegation also includes Officials from the Ministry of Tourism, Culture & Creative Arts, the Ghana Tourism Authority, Forestry Commission, Ghana Airport Company and private sector operators.
