Elton John Donates $5m For HIV Therapies For Gay Africans
Music legend Elton John has reportedly announced that his charitable foundation will donate $5m to improve access to HIV therapies for gays, lesbians, bisexual and transgender people in Africa.
The US government will also match the singers donation as part of a joint initiative. The initial focus will be on countries where homosexuality is illegal.
Jones said that HIV and AIDS was spreading because gay people were afraid to get tested.
“People are afraid for their lives, they’re afraid to get tested, they’re afraid to say they’re gay. So unless we stop this, nip this in the bud now, it’s gonna cause awful havoc,” the British musician said.
