Nigerian Poses As Police Officer To Defraud

A Nigerian who allegedly posed as a police officer and defrauded a scrap dealer in Accra, has been arrested by the police.

The suspect, Prince Tempo alias Don Tempo was reported to have introduced himself to Godfred Afful (victim), as Sergeant Asiedu of the CID Unit, Accra Regional Police Command who was investigating a case involving him.

Prince Tempo succeed in taking money from Afful.

The Second in Command of the Greater Accra Regional Police Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Timothy Yoosa Bonga, at a news conference in Accra yesterday, said on October 31, Tempo introduced himself as a police man investigating a stealing case in which Afful was implicated.

He said Tempo told Afful his name was mentioned in the case for receiving stolen items.

ACP Bonga said the suspect asked Afful to pay GH¢1,500 or GH¢1,000 to him so as to discontinue the case against him.

The suspect asked the complainant to pay GH¢25 as his taxi fare and GH¢40 to discontinue the case or else he would handcuff him, which the complainant did”.

ACP Bonga said he ordered Afful to report to the Accra Regional Police office on November 2, which he did.

ACP Bonga said the suspect entered the yard and took the complainant to a police vehicle and demanded the money, but the complainant became suspicious and alerted the police and he was arrested.

ACP Bonga said Prince Tempo led the police to a hotel at Kantamanto to retrieve the handcuffs.
