Players of the senior male national team feel ready to represent Ghana push for another World Cup berth. Ghana would be in action on Sunday in the 2010 joint Nations Cup and World Cup qualifier against Sudan in Accra.
The Black Stars hold a 100 percent record in the qualifying series and have managed a clean sheet till date but they face a tricky test against a Sudanese side searching for their first win in Group D.
Ghana�s chances for qualification to the World Cup finals remain very high and that prospect would be further boosted if they beat Sudan. But players of the team insists the whole squad have to remain focused and will not take Sunday�s qualifier lightly after winning the reverse fixture 2-0 in Khartoum back in June.
The Black Stars were full of confidence after finishing a test game against two separate lower division sides on Thursday with six goals to their credit. In the first session lasting 52 minutes, the national side were 2-0 winners against Great Assin North Utd with goals coming from Asamoah Gyan and Opoku Agyemang.
The team rounded up the test game against Dreams FC who went down 4-0 as Matthew Amoah hit a hat-trick with Haminu Draman scoring the final goal. www.ghanafa.org captured the views of the some of the players after Thursday�s workout.
Stephen Appiah: �It�s going to be difficult. They (Sudan) would come in to surprise us. We have to be serious and get our points. We have not qualified yet. But on Sunday we would play to get our points and hope the result in the other game goes our away.�
Samuel Inkoom: �We are all determined and want to do something for our nation. We hope Ghanaians would pray for us and we would do something for our nation. Everything is fine, morale is high and the senior players are encouraging us. We are all heading in the same direction.�
Michael Essien: �We are playing in front of our fans and we have lots of confidence to win it. The pressure is always there but we have the experience to deal with it. The most important thing is to win the game.�
Asamoah Gyan: �I am confident personally and everyone is ready for the game. It�s important for us to go to the World Cup for the second time. We are relaxed and there is no pressure on anybody. The Sudanese are coming in and they would be strong but we would be up for it.�
John Paintsil: �We have got a good test. The boys (practice sides) kept on running despite them playing in the second division. They gave us a good run and we are happy to have come out with such a good performance and our confidence high.�
